Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiography)

We are looking to recruit experienced Cardiac Physiologists / Healthcare Scientists to work in Echocardiography as part of our Diagnostic Cardiology team.

We have an ambitious plan and are looking for aspirational, committed individuals to join us, making a real difference to both staff and patients.

As a tertiary centre, Sheffield Teaching Hospital delivers several regional services, and by joining us, you could be involved in helping deliver our comprehensive and expanding training program. Develop and expand your knowledge to include ACHD, and PH as Sheffield is one of Europe's largest Pulmonary Hypertension centres. Research and innovation are key to advances in medicine, Sheffield Teaching Hospital is internationally recognised for several of its specialist services and research.

The post holders will undertake routine and complex diagnostic transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac ultrasound investigations and interpret results to provide an accurate clinical report that can be clearly understood by a physician not experienced in echocardiography and adheres to local and national guidelines.

Interested applicants should possess a BSc in Clinical Physiology, MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory and Sleep Sciences) or BTEC / HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements and hold RCCP / AHCS / HCPC registration.

Would consider part time applications.


Main duties of the job

* Support the Cardiac Ultrasound Service for the STHT by providing a high standard of work within Echocardiography that meets organisational, professional, and individual needs for the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit.
* Provide leadership, training and education in the clinical areas, enabling staff to develop clinical skills and competencies required for delivering a high quality diagnostic echo service, responsive to changing needs.
* Work alongside other senior members of the team to deliver a highly intensive in-house Echo training programme. In addition, support the development of a regional Echo Training website.
* Undertake clinical supervision and training of other qualified professionals (including physicians), junior and trainee physiological staff.
* Liaise effectively with the Lead Echocardiographer and Lead Trainer in Echo to ensure that departmental and BSE guidelines are maintained and up to date with current clinical and technical practice.
* Help develop specialist services, participate in other CPD activities to maintain own competencies.

Qualifications

* MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory and Sleep Sciences) or other relevant Level 7 academic qualification or BTEC / HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements or BSc in Clinical Physiology with relevant experience and ability to demonstrate working at Masters / Academic Level 7 level
* SCST parts I & II (if applicable to qualification route)
* British Society of Echocardiography Adult proficiency Accreditation
* Professional Registration with Academy of Healthcare Science or Health and Care Professions Council
* Immediate Life Support
* Teaching or Managerial Qualification/ Experience


Experience

* Perform transthoracic echocardiograms to a high standard independently in accordance with BSE guidelines and department minimum standards
* Demonstrate Continual Professional Development as per British Society of Echocardiography Guidelines
* Experience in providing specialised, unsupervised diagnostic reports to an appropriate level and highlight urgent findings
* Professional membership of relevant professional body obtained by examination e.g. British Society of Echocardiography
* Ability to deliver hands on training and support junior members of staff, Specialist Registrars or other medical professionals as required
* Experience of providing a wide range of diagnostic investigations
* Experience in supervision and assessment
* Some experience in speciality procedures e.g. contrast

£49,387 to £56,515 a year (per annum or pro rata for part time staff)
