Overview
Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist/Senior CBT Therapist position for a NIHR funded research trial on paranoia in young people. The project is a 22‑month feasibility randomised controlled trial led by Joint Chief Investigators and a senior co‑applicant team, testing an imagery and values based therapy for young people experiencing paranoia in a schools based setting.
Responsibilities
* Deliver weekly psychological therapy to young people identified in schools as part of the trial, using TRUST therapy.
* Receive training prior to delivering therapy and participate in close supervision during the trial.
* Contribute to intervention development to adapt the therapy manual for local/contextual presentations.
* Work across education and healthcare settings to support young people, parents/carers and the education community with mental health and wellbeing related to paranoia.
* Train and supervise research assistants, support recruitment, and contribute to trial governance as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Travel to different sites within the Trust and beyond as required for meetings and supervision.

* Pay band: NHS AfC Band 8a
* Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per year, pro rata
* Contract: Fixed term
* Duration: 14 months

Who we are looking for
Essential qualifications
* Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with HCPC registration OR equivalent professional qualification (e.g., RMN, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker) plus CBT Diploma and BABCP accreditation as a CBT Therapist
Desirable
* Specialist CBT Training
* Specialist CBT Training in CBT for Psychosis
* Further qualifications/training in therapy models (e.g., EMDR) and in clinical supervision
Experience
* Essential: experience delivering highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions; experience in multidisciplinary mental health settings; prior clinical supervision; involvement in a clinical research study; knowledge of clinical trials methodology; experience with multicultural settings
Desirable
* Experience delivering psychological interventions in schools; working with complex cases in education or health settings; experience delivering CBT for severe mental health problems; experience working on a clinical trial; specialist knowledge about adolescent paranoia; experience with neurodiversity and additional educational needs
Knowledge
* Strong cognitive therapy skills and ability to deliver protocol interventions to a high standard
* Knowledge of the English education system
* Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management, and relevant mental health legislation
Skills and abilities
* Effective written and spoken communication; ability to convey information about paranoia to young people and professionals
* Excellent clinical, time management and organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team
* Experience with complex psychological assessment and intervention methods
Mobility
* Use of a car or access to transport to travel across the Trust footprint
