About Bhuku Ltd
Bhuku Ltd is a specialist provider of education and skills development in prisons across the UK. We design and deliver innovative, inclusive, and outcomes-driven programmes that build employability, confidence, and resilience for learners preparing for release.
About the Programme – Skill Ninjas: Life After Prison
This role will deliver Skill Ninjas: Life After Prison, Bhuku's non-accredited Transition Course for men at HMP Standford Hill. The programme is designed for long-term and older prisoners (including over-50s) preparing to return to life in the community.
The course runs one day per week (Mondays) and is repeated for three cohorts of 10 learners over the 9-month contract, supporting 30 learners in total.
Learners will:
* Practise modern life skills including smartphones, online services, ATMs, contactless payments, and self-checkouts.
* Gain knowledge of housing, finance, healthcare, and community support systems.
* Improve communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
* Complete a community integration project in small groups.
* Build confidence and create a personal resettlement action plan for release.
The Role
As the Transition Course Tutor, you will:
* Deliver weekly full-day workshops and activities to groups of 10 learners.
* Facilitate practical sessions on real-life reintegration topics such as travel, technology, healthcare, and finance.
* Support learners with reflective journaling and building a progression portfolio.
* Encourage teamwork and leadership through a community project.
* Provide individualised support for learners with low literacy, ESOL, or additional needs.
* Work collaboratively with prison staff and peer mentors to ensure inclusivity.
* Track and report on learner progress using prison systems (PNOMIS).
* Celebrate learner achievements through certificates and recognition events at the end of each cohort.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to help learners develop practical skills and confidence that directly reduce barriers to resettlement and reoffending.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
* Experienced in teaching, mentoring, or group facilitation in prisons, community education, or adult learning.
* Confident delivering sessions on life skills, employability, or personal development.
* Able to adapt materials for learners with diverse needs, including ESOL, neurodiverse, and older learners.
* Skilled in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
* Resilient and professional in working within a secure prison setting.
Experience in prison education is desirable but not essential – full induction and training will be provided.
What We Offer
* £13 per hour, paid monthly.
* A 9-month fixed-term contract with potential for future opportunities.
* Full induction and CPD training including safeguarding, equality & diversity, and trauma-informed practice.
* Ongoing support from Bhuku's management team, including programme management, curriculum oversight, and quality assurance.
* The chance to make a tangible difference in preparing men for life beyond custody.
