We are looking for an experienced Night Duty Engineer to provide technical leadership and operational support for night works on the Transport for London (TfL) network.
You will work in close alignment with the late / night Service Coordinator to ensure that all site activities are planned, supported, and executed safely and efficiently. The Duty Engineer acts as the senior decision-maker during live works, using technical expertise and sound judgment to resolve issues and maintain operational continuity throughout the night.
This role is suited to a confident, hands-on engineer with experience in drainage, civil, or utilities operations, who is ready to take ownership of decision-making and technical assurance across multiple sites.
Hours: 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, 18:00 - 06:00 (12-hour shifts)
Key Responsibilities
Provide live technical support and decision-making during night operations.
Work alongside the Service Coordinator's to plan and monitor multiple concurrent workstreams.
Act as the main point of contact for operational escalations from site teams.
Ensure all works are carried out safely, eƯiciently, and in compliance with TfL and Lanes standards.
Review work packs, RAMS, and permits prior to deployment.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in real time to prevent disruption to works.
Liaise with clients, control rooms, and internal management to communicate progress and resolve queries.
Verify quality of completed works and support the completion of documentation and handovers.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to field teams and supervisors.
Promote continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices.
Skills And Experience Required
Proven experience in a drainage, civil engineering, or utilities field-based role.
Strong technical knowledge of drainage systems, jetting, CCTV surveying, and associated rail infrastructure works.
Understanding of rail-specific safety requirements and possession working practices.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Competent in reviewing and interpreting technical documentation (RAMS, drawings, specifications).
Proficient in Microsoft OƯice and general IT systems.
Full UK Driving Licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
