Lead Midwife for Pre‑term Birth

The Lead Midwife for Pre‑term Birth is a senior clinical leadership role within the maternity service at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will lead and coordinate pre‑term birth prevention and optimisation work in line with national initiatives including Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle Version 3 (SBLCBv3), MatNeoSIP and NHS Resolution standards.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of evidence‑based pathways and clinical practices to improve outcomes for women and babies at risk of pre‑term birth.
* Lead audits, reporting and monitor compliance with national standards.
* Deliver staff training and support service improvement, governance, audit, education and quality improvement initiatives.
* Collaborate with obstetric, neonatal, governance and regional maternity teams to ensure safe, equitable and seamless care across the maternity pathway.
* Contribute to research and policy development related to pre‑term birth.
Knowledge
* Good understanding of SBLCB and pre‑term birth prevention and management.
* Insight into data use to influence patient care and services.
* Analytical skills to respond to, prioritise and tackle complex problems.
* Ability to generate and present reports and documents.
* Effective handling of clinical issues within defined procedures and guidelines.
* Use of appraisal, personal development review and training needs analysis.
* Knowledge of current NHS strategy and policy issues.
* Application of clinical benchmarking.
* Knowledge and skills framework understanding.
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Teaching and assessing qualification.
* Completion of all local competency packages.
* Research training/experience (ECDL).
* Attendance at conferences or study days.
Experience
* Experience caring for women at risk of or in pre‑term labour.
* Substantive managerial/leadership experience at Band 6 in the NHS.
* Participation in organisational change that improved quality.
* Proven track record in leadership and management.
* Leading projects and generating reports.
* Recruitment and selection of staff.
* Audit or research within the clinical area.
* Formal teaching of groups of staff.
* Budget management.
* Successful implementation and management of change processes.
* Formal teaching experience.
Contractual Requirements
* Flexible and adaptable.
* Enhanced CRB clearance.
