Consultant Thoracic Surgeon
Post available at the John Radcliffe Hospital (whole–time / part–time). The successful appointment will provide adult thoracic surgical provision within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will work across the Trusts sites and peripheral clinics.

Main responsibilities
* Provide adult thoracic surgical care, including primary lung cancer resections, chest wall procedures, thymectomies, endobronchial valve placements and other specialist thoracic operations.
* Take part in ward rounds, sarcoma MDTs and deliver the Trusts lung cancer performance targets.
* Teach clinical students, train junior doctors and support clinical examinations.
* Participate in clinical governance: clinical audit, risk management, quality improvement and external accreditation activities.
* Engage in research, publish findings and contribute to audit activities including collection and submission of national thoracic audit data.
* Manage clinical service within the Trusts policies, administer patient care and support the lead clinician and/or directorate chair.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge and undertake study leave as appropriate.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
* FRCS (C‑Th) or equivalent.
* Registration on the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiothoracic Surgery or CCT in Cardiothoracic Surgery or within 6 months of CCT date at interview.
* Higher medical degree.
Experience
* General training in thoracic surgery to specialist level or equivalent.
* Independence in sub‑specialist thoracic procedures: chest wall resection + reconstruction, pectus correction, thymectomy, endobronchial valves, anatomical lung resection, rib fixation.
* Evidence of decision‑making at consultant level, including MDT participation and management of complex clinical problems.
* Research interest with publications and audit experience.
* Experience managing non‑selective thoracic on‑call.
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent leadership and teamwork skills in a teaching hospital.
* Strong administrative and time‑management abilities, with training in clinical management.
* Effective communication skills in spoken and written English.
* Evidence of contribution to teaching, training and clinical governance.
* Knowledge of NHS organisation and Government agenda for modernisation.
* Experience in management training and peer‑reviewed publications or research grants.
Other Requirements
* Full UK driving licence.
