Volunteer Trustee or Advisor with Marketing Experience
Abbotsford, in the Scottish Borders, is one of the world's most famous literary houses. We are now looking for individuals with significant experience in Marketing & PR to guide us in raising Abbotsford’s profile in the UK and overseas.
What difference will you make? The Trust derives most of its income from paying visitors and group travel operators. Paying visitor numbers have yet to fully recover to pre-covid levels. As an experienced strategic marketeer, you will guide us in raising Abbotsford’s profile in the UK and overseas, including immediate priorities to revisit our customer knowledge, our brand, our digital and media reach, and CRM tools.
The Trust is currently assessing opportunities to make more of the Walter Scott Prize to reach new audiences, and interest them in Abbotsford. This will be an interesting time to influence the future direction of a prestigious Commonwealth literary prize.

What will you be doing?
The Abbotsford Trust is looking for exceptional individuals to join its Board as Trustees, or to join our working Committees as an Advisor. Our charity was established in 2007 to act as a guardian of Sir Walter Scott’s legacy; Abbotsford in the Scottish Borders. Following a major restoration project, Abbotsford was reopened by the Queen in 2013.
The Trust is now fundraising towards its ‘Next Generation Abbotsford’ strategy, which aims to introduce Scott’s stories and legacy to younger and more diverse audiences. As a Trustee you will join a highly experienced and influential Board. Aspiring to a balanced Board, we will be particularly interested to hear from women and professionals in the midst of their career. Trustees are unpaid, but may claim expenses.
