Band 6 Community Occupational Therapist North Bedfordshire

We are seeking a full time Band 6 Occupational Therapist, who is passionate and enthusiastic to join our Therapy Service in North Bedfordshire. This is an exciting opportunity if you are thinking about joining community therapy or gaining new experiences. You will need strong assessment skills with a personalised approach, skills in moving and handling, risk assessing and identifying solutions to reduce risk to provide for the needs and personal outcomes of the individual, their families and carers. You will work closely alongside other members of the MDT to support patients with complex needs within the place they call home.
Responsibilities
* To be a Specialist Occupational Therapist responsible for providing a high standard of assessment, advice, treatment and evaluation of clients referred to the integrated services within the locality. This may include clients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, including neurological conditions.
* To work as part of a multi professional service, within the community setting, working with clients towards rehabilitation, self-management and independence throughout the continuum of care, to improve their outcomes.
* To work as an autonomous professional according to the Health and Care Professions Council's regulations.
* To supervise, educate and assess performance of students. This would be to a graduate level and involve working with the universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
* Work without direct supervision; to hold responsibility for own caseload and supporting the management structure in place to promote the provision of an excellent service.

Education and Registration
* BSc Occupational Therapy Degree or Diploma
* HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
* Clear record of post graduate experience
Experience
* Experience of a broad range of physical conditions, treatment techniques and intervention
* Core rehabilitation skills
* Experience of working with adult clients with primarily physical illness or disability
Knowledge and Skills
* Detailed understanding of a wide range of physical medical conditions
* Knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions that affect physical conditions
* Ability to lead and motivate others
* Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex and varied caseload
* Ability to analyse results of assessments and arrange/change OT interventions accordingly
* Work and carry out assessments in clients' homes
Other
* Have a full UK appropriate driver’s licence and access to a car
Professional Skills
* The Occupational Therapist must adapt communication, treatment, information and advice to meet the needs of individual clients.
* To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of clients in your care.
* To support and guide junior Occupational Therapists and non-qualified staff in clinical and organisational skills.
* To deputise for more senior therapy staff and delegate duties safely to junior staff.
* To take a lead for specific projects within own area of work to enhance patient care and service delivery.
* To maintain a high standard of professional expertise and act as an advocate for the OT profession and Community OT service.
* To complete Practice Educators training and support student placements.
* To understand and implement local systems and procedures to contribute to service continuity.
Education and Research
* Active participation in Supervision and Appraisal process; identify own learning needs and objectives.
* Booking and attending mandatory training as specified in Trust policies (e.g., basic life support, fire, manual handling).
* Continue to develop specialist OT skills in a specific clinical field.
* Promote better client care through audit, research, case studies and reflective practice.
