This role offers an exciting opportunity to diversify your skillset by working with complex neurology referral cases within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. You'll play a vital part in ensuring the highest standards of patient care throughout their treatment journey, in a hospital equipped with fantastic facilities and supported by expert specialists.
Your responsibilities will include:
*Nursing care of hospitalised patients (either in ICU or day wards)
*Performing anaesthetic monitoring of patients during advanced diagnostic procedures, e.g. MRI
*Anaesthesia and surgical preparation for those undergoing surgical interventions
*Assisting with the daily running and maintenance of specialist equipment
*Supporting our wards & rehabilitation teams with the post-operative care of neurological patients.
Our ideal candidate will be a dedicated and passionate nurse with a keen interest in veterinary neurology. We are looking for a person either who has prior experience working in referral or who wishes to advance their nursing knowledge and skills, within the specialist discipline of neurology. You will join an experienced team who will provide practical training and support, enabling you to diversify your skillset.

SCVS are a specialist-led small animal hospital equipped with the expertise and knowledge to support the most complex of cases. As a large multidisciplinary referral hospital, we offer impressive facilities and state-of-the-art equipment which enable us to provide outstanding treatment to our patients from the initial consultation right through to discharging them from our care. We are conveniently based in Ringwood, Hampshire, just off the A31.
Our recent expansion has provided us with a new purpose-built theatre complex, a two-storey facility housing a large client reception and waiting area, 10 new consulting rooms, along with a new rehabilitation centre. The improvements do not stop here, with further additions to include a new diagnostic suite and ICU area, plus much more.
We have an outstanding team of recognised specialists across a multitude of disciplines. We also have a dedicated rehabilitation team who provide physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to aide post-operative recovery. The care and comfort of our patients is always at the front of our minds. Our advanced nursing team provide excellent care to all patients during their stay at SCVS. We also have a team of dedicated veterinary care assistants to ensure patients feel reassured and comforted during their stay.
Our Neurology team comprises 2 full time Neurology Nurses, plus the support of RVNs from our Multidisciplinary and Anaesthesia teams. We also have the support of our dedicated Neurology VCA, plus our team of expert Neurology Clinicians, 2 Residents and 1 Intern.
What you will bring to our team
*We are looking for a dynamic individual with high attention to detail and an empathetic approach to patient care.
*The successful candidate should possess the confidence to take initiative and actively contribute to the care of our patients.
*A keen interest in neurological cases is essential.
*Previous experience in a referral practice is beneficial.
*Relevant certificates or other post-grad qualifications are desirable.
Shift pattern
This is a full-time, 40hr/week position on a 5 week rolling rota. We can accommodate a 4 or 5 day working week Monday-Friday, and 1:5 weekends with TOIL. Please note there is no scheduled on-call or OOHs work with this role, however occasional overtime may be required in the event of an emergency or if one of your cases runs over the expected time.
