Health and Safety Consultant
Do you want to work in the exciting world of television, film, and events? If so, a role with First Option is the perfect opportunity for you. We’re looking for a health and safety consultant to join our growing team supporting clients in the media and entertainment industry. First Option (an ERM Group Company) leads in production safety, wellbeing, and sustainability, supporting hundreds of projects annually across the UK and worldwide.
We require a London or Manchester (or within a reasonable commute, e.g., one hour) based Health and Safety Consultant to support our clients. The role involves visiting locations for high-end TV productions, recceing sites, producing risk assessments, providing onsite support abroad for high-risk activities like stunts and SFX, conducting safety inspections in studios and offices, or supporting large-scale events or brand activations.
You will provide health and safety advice, information, and training to ensure our clients' creative ideas are achieved safely. If you work well with minimal supervision, demonstrate high competence in safety management, and offer creative solutions to health and safety issues, this role offers stimulating challenges.
This position requires excellent communication skills and creative thinking. You must be professionally qualified (NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent) and ideally have 1-2 years’ experience in a health and safety role.
Context
The focus of the Health & Safety Consultant will be to work with the First Option team and clients to:
* Adopt a creative and innovative approach to providing health and safety advice and guidance.
* Establish systems and arrangements to foster a positive safety culture among clients.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
1. Offer timely and professional health and safety advice to client managers and staff.
2. Conduct proactive monitoring and auditing of contractors, recommending risk minimization strategies.
3. Lead or support training program creation and implementation.
4. Enhance awareness and accessibility of relevant safety reference materials.
5. Investigate incidents and prepare reports to meet legal obligations.
6. Evaluate and audit the effectiveness of risk management processes.
7. Keep clients informed about significant safety issues.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* A recognized Health and Safety qualification.
* Graduate membership of IOSH or equivalent qualifications and experience.
Skills and Experience
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
* Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety regulations.
* Ability to balance operational priorities with safety standards.
* Well-organized with strong prioritization skills.
* Proficient in persuasion and influence across all levels.
* Solid understanding of computer systems and MS Office.
Beneficial but not essential
* Understanding of the media and television industries.
* Training experience.
