Position
Blood Sciences Manager (Deputy Manager) – Band 8B, Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week. Closing date: 19 June 2026.
Key Responsibilities
* Direct and manage the Blood Sciences department, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
* Ensure services respond to clinical needs and are developed accordingly.
* Act as deputy for the Pathology Service Manager and represent the department at CSU and other Trust meetings.
* Lead health and safety matters for Blood Science services and attend Trust Health & Safety meetings.
* Benchmark, audit and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes.
* Interpret and implement policies, legislation, regulations and guidance from the Trust and national bodies.
* Collaborate with the S4 network and technical teams to guarantee new equipment meets analytical specifications.
* Contribute to organisational development of Blood Science Service under strategic leadership.
Qualifications & Knowledge
* Biomedical Science degree or equivalent.
* Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
* State registration with HCPC.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Management qualification or equivalent; experience in capacity planning, budget management, workforce planning.
* Current knowledge of NHS constitution, Trust vision and values.
* In‑depth knowledge of CQC, UKAS, QSI accreditation and related regulations.
* Strong understanding of legislation concerning imaging, clinical governance, health and safety, NHS codes of conduct and employment law.
Desirable
* Strategic awareness within healthcare.
* Senior‑level clinical experience in acute settings.
* Experience as a Service Lead or Deputy with knowledge of Pathology service management.
Experience
* Experience managing a Pathology or related laboratory department.
* Experience in managing budgets and achieving financial targets.
* Experience leading teams under pressure, including readiness for UKAS/MHRA compliance.
* Problem‑solving and change‑management experience.
* Previous supervision of staff at Senior BMS or higher.

Employment Details
