The North Yorkshire and York CAMHS Crisis Team are seeking Community Support Workers/Trainees to join our team. Our team supports reducing hospital admissions by providing crisis assessments and enhanced crisis support to young people experiencing mental health crises and emotional distress. The service is fast-paced; therefore, organizational and self-motivation skills are essential. We deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions, engaging young people and their families proactively and creatively. Applicants should have a calm, consistent approach in challenging clinical situations, be compassionate, creative, and flexible in care delivery. The role requires the ability to travel independently within the locality.
Main duties of the job
The candidate should possess good communication skills with young people and families and be able to handle high levels of distress professionally and calmly.
As a community support worker/trainee, you will assist qualified staff with community/hospital visits, answer calls from professionals and families, and support young people during mental health crises as part of care planning by qualified staff. Responsibilities include documenting in electronic records, opening referrals, liaising with partner agencies, and signposting/referencing young people to appropriate services under supervision.
The candidate must have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or an equivalent qualification. Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent are also required. Completion of the Trust Healthcare Assistant competencies within the first 6 months is mandatory. Candidates lacking these qualifications are expected to enroll in the Healthcare Assistant Framework, which includes acquiring the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, and achieving competencies within two years.

The North Yorkshire and York CAMHS Crisis Team now provides a 24/7 service to young people and their families, and we seek to expand our team. We welcome individuals passionate about working with children and young people in a clinical setting, committed to multidisciplinary teamwork. The successful applicant will work in shifts covering 24/7 service provision. Our team covers a large geographical area with bases in Ripon, York, and Scarborough, with the main base in York. Travel across the locality during shifts is required to meet service demands. Good communication, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills are essential.
