The Role As a Year 6 Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge pupils and prepare them for national assessments. You will use assessment to inform planning, identify gaps in learning, and provide targeted support to ensure all pupils progress. A key element of the role is supporting pupils’ social and emotional development, helping them build resilience, confidence, and independence. You will also work closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders to ensure consistency and high-quality teaching across the phase. Key Responsibilities Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 6 curriculum Monitor and track pupil progress, using assessment to inform planning Differentiate learning to support pupils of varying abilities, including SEND and EAL learners Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and independence Collaborate with teaching assistants and KS2 colleagues Communicate effectively with parents and carers Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives Support pupils’ smooth transition to secondary education The Ideal Candidate The successful applicant will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Have experience teaching Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 6 Be confident in assessment, curriculum delivery, and differentiation Possess excellent classroom management and organisational skills Be reflective, adaptable, and proactive Demonstrate commitment to inclusive practice and safeguarding Have a positive, professional approach to teamwork Early Career Teachers with Upper KS2 experience are welcome and will be supported with mentoring.
