AAC WEST is an NHS-funded specialist department providing high-tech solutions for patients requiring alternative communication methods. The service is commissioned by NHS England to offer Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) assessments and equipment to individuals in the South West region meeting specific referral criteria.

AAC WEST is seeking to recruit an Associate Assistant Practitioner to support their busy clinical team in preparing communication aids. The successful candidate will undertake duties including:

1. Communication Aid Programming: Preparing high and low-tech communication resources using specialist software to create tailored content for patients.
2. Equipment Preparation: Ready equipment for clinical assessments and training sessions.
3. Providing telephone support to patients and carers regarding loaned equipment.
4. Assisting in delivering training sessions.

Working for our organisation:

AAC WEST comprises a multidisciplinary team including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Teachers, Technology Assistants, and administrative staff. The team operates across Bristol and Plymouth, united in supporting individuals with severe and complex communication difficulties and using technology to promote independence.

Key responsibilities include:

* Managing personal clinical workload with support from senior colleagues and departmental managers.
* Preparing communication equipment and materials for assessments, guided by the clinical team.
* Personalising and programming communication aids as directed.
* Becoming highly familiar with the department's specialist AAC software packages.
* Assisting in setting up iPads for loan triage.
* Managing software accounts on communication devices.
* Providing basic technical support during evaluation loans, as directed.
* Supporting the development of low-tech resources.
* Maintaining accurate clinical notes related to client interventions.

All activities will be delegated by clinical or senior staff, with support and advice available to complete tasks.
