Electrician
Location: HMP Portland - DT5 1DL
Salary: £40,579.20 per annum (inclusive of allowances)
Contract: Permanent, full time – 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Overview
HMP Portland, a category B adult male and YOI prison, is looking for a fully qualified Electrician to join our Facilities Maintenance Team. The role involves working in a supportive, family‑like environment to maintain safe and secure electrical systems for prisoners, staff and visitors.
Responsibilities
Support the planning and execution of electrical maintenance, including preventive and corrective tasks. Work alongside plumbers, carpenters, painters and other maintenance staff to deliver high‑quality service. Contribute to a safe work culture and support health & safety procedures.
Qualifications
* Certificate in BS7671:2018 (18th edition)
* Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation or Electrotechnical Services (City & Guilds/EAL), including relevant NVQs and competency assessments (AM2/AM2S – e.g. 2367 or 2357)
* Two years' experience as a fully qualified electrician
* Experience working on commercial or industrial electrical systems
* Good working knowledge of planned and preventive maintenance operations
* Strong health & safety knowledge
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills
