Job Description for Anglican Chaplain at HMP Fosse Way
Serco is seeking an Anglican Chaplain to join our team at the new prison, HMP Fosse Way, located in Leicester. The role can be full-time or part-time with weekend availability.
The Anglican Chaplain will work within the Multi-Faith team to ensure prisoners can participate in worship and religious activities, providing pastoral care to prisoners and staff. The role aims to establish HMP Fosse Way as a model of excellence in religious, spiritual, and pastoral services, focusing on emotional and spiritual support and positive interventions tailored to the needs of the population.
The key responsibilities include:
1. Providing advice, pastoral care, and spiritual welfare as Faith/Belief adviser.
2. Facilitating worship, meditation, religious programs, and meetings.
3. Contributing to policy development and practice improvement.
4. Offering mentoring and support to chaplains and volunteers.
5. Supporting crisis resolution and pastoral care.
6. Managing religious literature, supplies, and materials.
7. Organizing Faith Awareness Training for staff.
8. Maintaining personal spiritual health through prayer, study, and retreat.
9. Participating in meetings and contributing to organizational targets and administrative tasks.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should have at least 3 years of experience delivering faith-based services within a custodial environment, with a flexible approach to work. The candidate must be comfortable working in a multi-faith chaplaincy and meet faith/belief eligibility requirements. Proficiency in English (and Welsh in Wales) is essential.
Evidence of qualifications such as Reader, Religious Brother/Sister, or Church Army Evangelist is required. Candidates must be a Reader as per Canon E4 of The Canons of the Church of England or equivalent, and hold a license endorsed by the Diocesan Bishop. They should also have:
* Signed the Church of England or Church in Wales mutual flourishing documentation.
* Knowledge of Anglican theology and practice.
* Endorsement from the HMPPS Anglican Faith Adviser.
* Diocesan DBS clearance and safeguarding training.
* Formal qualification in theology or religious studies (minimum Diploma level) with relevant experience in worship, group work, and pastoral care.
