Job Details Grade: 10A Hours: 35 Hourly Rate: £27.13 - £28.37 Salary: £49523.88 - £51786.87 per annum Role Purpose Scottish Borders Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced civil engineer to act as an Engineering Design Team Leader within its Engineering team. The successful applicant will lead and manage a small design team in the delivery of the Council’s engineering construction projects. Applicants are required to be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with an appropriate Engineering Institution, or be willing to obtain this membership within an agreed timescale upon appointment. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate considerable management experience of the design and supervision of construction projects, sound experience of CDM and other Health and Safety Regulations and the ability to lead, motivate and inspire staff and others to deliver effective, customer-focused services. They will also require: • the ability to manage the delivery of engineering construction projects via internal or external resources through the design, procurement, construction and handover stages to agreed standards • the ability to manage the team in the provision of high quality, customer-focused, value for money engineering design and construction services, ensuring the service is fit for purpose and able to respond to the complex and changing demands of a local authority. • the ability to work collaboratively as part of the wider Roads Service and Infrastructure and Environment Department, supporting colleagues to achieve departmental, local and national objectives. • the ability to assist in the development of long-term strategic plans for the Engineering service including an annual business/work plan and key performance indicators for approval by Chief Officer Roads. • the ability to research, prepare and present well-argued and clear proposals, reports, presentations or papers for Council, Project Boards, Committees as well as staff, local communities and the public. • a full current driving licence Essential Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or evidence of comparable experience and training. Chartered or Incorporated Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Highways and Transportation or similar institution, or willing to obtain within agreed timescale on appointment.
