CAD Technician – Structural Steel
Location: Walsall
Overview
Poolhall Recruitment is looking for a CAD Technician to join a professional fabrication office team. You will support the design, manufacture, and installation of structural steelwork across the wastewater, energy, and transport sectors.
This role includes preparing general arrangement and fabrication drawings, conducting site surveys, assisting with accurate estimating, and working closely with clients and engineers to deliver high-quality project outputs.
Key responsibilities
Drawing & design
*
Create GA and fabrication drawings to BSEN standards using AutoCAD (2D) and relevant 3D packages
*
Include welding symbols and material specifications in line with BSEN 1090
*
Conduct site surveys
*
Prepare preliminary drawings and BOMs for estimating purposes
*
Use modular design principles where appropriate
*
Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and external engineers to ensure drawing quality
*
Produce full drawing and documentation packs for fabrication
Project coordination & client support
*
Attend site visits and design/client meetings
*
Handle technical queries and confirm project requirements
Procurement & documentation
*
Generate a bill of materials
*
Request and compare supplier quotations, place orders where needed
*
Ensure accurate and consistent document control within project folders
*
Issue Declarations of Performance and UCKA Certificates
Requirements
Essential
*
Experience in structural steelwork and medium/heavy engineering
*
Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and knowledge of BSEN standards
*
Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively
*
High level of attention to detail
*
Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Advanced Steel
*
Background in the water industry or construction
