Production Engineer – Derby
We're working with a well‑established engineering business in the rail sector that's expanding and looking to appoint a Production Engineer to support their growing operation. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, streamlining workflow and keeping production running efficiently across both workshop and mobile engineering teams.
Responsibilities
* Plan daily workloads across departments and engineering teams
* Allocate labour to maximise output and efficiency
* Reduce downtime and remove workflow bottlenecks
* Drive continuous improvement and lean initiatives
* Provide technical support around coatings, repairs and surface preparation
* Ensure work meets customer specifications and quality requirements
* Support safety and compliance including RAMS, COSHH and best practice
* Coordinate equipment maintenance and identify tooling improvements
* Liaise with customers and project teams on technical requirements
Qualifications
* Experience in production or process engineering
* Knowledge of coatings, blasting, surface preparation and/or workshop operations
* Exposure to lean or continuous improvement methods
* Strong planning, communication and problem‑solving skills
