Fixed Term

The UK Data Archive is the lead organisation of the UK Data Service, which provides unified access to regional, national, and international social and economic data, support for policy-relevant research, guidance, and training for the development of skills in data curation and use. This post is part of the UK Data Service Digital Preservation, Systems & Security team based at the UK Data Archive.

Duties of the Role

The primary purpose of this post is to manage our role in the FAIRsFAIR project, which develops practices to ensure data are findable, accessible, interoperable, and re-usable (FAIR), supporting the development of a European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

This pivotal role involves managing standards and best practice development, mentoring support to achieve trustworthy digital repository status through the CoreTrustSeal, and leading the development of a network of trusted repositories. The role will also involve leading information development and coordination, managing interactions with the project, supported repositories, and data management organizations at UK, European, and global levels.

The successful candidate will define and implement best practice information and change management solutions within the UK Data Service, based on standards such as the OAIS reference model and TDR Requirements (CoreTrustSeal, ISO16363). The role provides leadership within the technical services team in designing and documenting processes and systems that exemplify repository best practices.

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent (BA, BSc) or possess relevant experience in research infrastructure, repositories, data preservation, data use, and data curation.

Experience in leading and managing projects, meetings, and events is essential. Candidates should have research skills to integrate and deliver information from multiple sources, including designing and running reports and preparing data for management. IT literacy is preferred, with experience in technical information systems, workflows, licensing, and contracts. Excellent communication skills, the ability to handle multiple priorities in a busy environment, and confidence in liaising with staff at all levels are required.
