The successful candidate will join the Design Authority (DA) team, a multidisciplinary group responsible for ensuring the safety, integrity, and design assurance of defence infrastructure. The team operates across the full system lifecycle, overseeing safety justifications, design compliance, operational performance, and change control for systems and structures. Acting as the Intelligent Customer and Approving Authority, the team plays a pivotal role in maintaining operational readiness and regulatory compliance for equipment.
Your Mission:
The Electrical Design Engineer will join a multi-disciplinary team within the Approving Authority, supporting both client sites. The team develops and maintains design substantiation, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational effectiveness in line with regulatory standards and best practices.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and manage design substantiation & change documents
* Create and update EIMT schedules and operating procedures
* Produce Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) reports
* Present designs to nuclear safety committees
* Provide expert advice to internal/external stakeholders
* Apply engineering knowledge in high-risk nuclear environments
* Justify and support civil/structural design changes
* Review contractor reports and safety case submissions
* Check calculations and technical documents from team members
Key Requirements:
* Experienced Electrical Engineer with strong HV (up to 11kV) plant & distribution knowledge (LV considered with HV exposure)
* Familiar with British & European design standards and industry best practices
* Skilled across concept, detailed design, and construction phases in electrical projects (ideally industrial/maritime)
* Experience in assessing electrical equipment hazard resilience
* Proven ability to author technical justifications for electrical design changes in high-hazard industries
* Track record of providing electrical input on multi-disciplinary projects
Desirable Criteria:
* Prior experience in high-risk environments
* Familiar with safety case methods (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP)
* Understanding of UK/US nuclear regulations and relevant nuclear-specific standards
Qualifications:
* HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline (Essential)
* Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience and standing
* Degree or equivalent qualifications and experience in a relevant engineering discipline
