The role
This is not a typical “entry-level consulting” role.
At Nzyme, junior consultants sit inside the real mechanics of NHS access — not just NICE theory. You will work directly on live programmes with pharmaceutical clients, supporting how medicines move from approval to actual patient use across ICBs, Cancer Alliances, and provider systems.
This role is about understanding one thing:
Why access fails — and how to fix it.
What you’ll be doing
1. Build insight from messy system data
* Analyse NHS datasets (activity, prescribing, pathways, funding flows)
* Translate policy and operational data into clear insight
* Identify where access is breaking down at system level
2. Support access strategy development
* Contribute to market access strategies across:
* ICBs
* Cancer Alliances
* Primary care networks
* Support development of routes to patient initiation
* Help shape real-world implementation plans (not theoretical frameworks)
3. Deliver client outputs
* Build high-quality PowerPoint outputs in the Nzyme style
* Turn complex data into clear, commercially relevant narratives
* Support development of value propositions grounded in NHS reality
4. Work within the Catalyst Team
* Support a specialist sub-national access team with:
* Proven NHS networks
* Rapid system engagement
* Deep operational understanding
* Contribute to account plans and stakeholder mapping
5. Support stakeholder engagement
* Assist in engagement with:
* NHS clinicians
* ICB and Cancer Alliance leads
* Medicines optimisation teams
* Help translate insight into conversations that drive action
What we’re looking for
Background
* Degree in life sciences, healthcare, economics or similar
* 1–2 years’ experience (consulting, pharma, NHS, analytics or policy)
Skills
* Strong analytical thinking — comfortable working with imperfect data
* Ability to structure problems and communicate clearly
* High standard of PowerPoint and written communication
* Curiosity about how the NHS actually works (beyond theory)
Mindset
* Comfortable with ambiguity
* Commercially aware
* Interested in real-world impact, not just academic outputs
What makes this different
Most junior roles will teach you:
* NICE processes
* Literature reviews
* Slide building
This role will teach you:
* Why NICE approval does not equal access
* How ICBs, pathways and capacity actually drive uptake
* Where implementation fails — and how to intervene
You will work on problems like:
* Why a NICE-approved therapy isn’t being used
* How to unlock adoption across a region
* How to move patients into treatment pathways faster
Career progression
* Senior Consultant / Account Lead
* Director
Progression is based on impact and ownership, not tenure.
