We are looking for a committed and compassionate Social Care Assessor to join our Disabled Children’s Service – Targeted Support team at Devon County Council.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children with a wide range of disabilities and neurodiverse needs, supporting families to access the right help at the right time. You will play a vital role in assessing need for Short Breaks and targeted social care support, using a strengths-based, child-centred approach that focuses on promoting independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
About the role
As a Social Care Assessor, you will undertake assessments and reviews to understand children’s unmet social care needs and work collaboratively with families to identify the most appropriate pathways of support. You will work closely with parents and carers, ensuring their voices are heard, while keeping the child at the centre of all decision-making.
You will work in partnership with colleagues across Health, Education, Social Care, and other support services, contributing to integrated and coordinated support plans. Assessments may be completed virtually or through visits in family homes across Devon, offering variety and meaningful direct work.
The role requires professional judgement, empathy, and a strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, and best practice. You will be supported by an experienced management team and benefit from regular supervision, learning opportunities, and a collaborative team culture.
About you
You will have experience or a good understanding of working with children with disabilities and the complexities this can bring for children and their families. You will be motivated, flexible, and empathetic, with the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team.
You will bring:
