The Role
Do you have the passion, expertise, leadership and drive to shape the future of adult social work practice and support Bolton’s Adult Social Care Vision?
We are entering a new phase of collaborative working with the Mental Health Trust, focusing on co-location, integrated multi-disciplinary teams, and shared service delivery. We welcome applicants who are committed to this vision and to improving outcomes for adults and carers eligible under the Care Act 2014. This is a pivotal time for mental health social work. As Team Manager, you will help lead and support the social work team, providing professional supervision, guidance, and leadership. You will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring statutory duties under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and other relevant legislation are met.
You will manage team workloads, allocate cases, and maintain robust duty systems. The role includes supporting staff development, chairing multi-disciplinary and safeguarding meetings, and overseeing legal processes such as those related to the Court of Protection.
You will ensure compliance with Council policies, including those related to absence management, performance reviews, and training. The role also supports workforce development through supervision of Social Work Students and newly qualified staff completing their ASYE.
About You
You will be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England, with experience in adult social care and a commitment to strengths-based, evidence-informed practice. You’ll bring a collaborative approach, working effectively across multi-agency settings, and demonstrate a strong understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusive leadership.
We’re seeking someone enthusiastic and motivated, with a passion for supporting adults and older adults with mental health needs. You will have experience managing staff at Deputy Manager or Team Manager level and be confident in leading social work services that reflect best practice and legal compliance.
You’ll have a sound understanding of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 and be committed to service improvement and transformation. Your communication skills will be key in representing the service and supporting staff through change.
You will be confident in mentoring and guiding staff in strengths-based approaches, promoting independence and positive outcomes. You’ll also support innovation and relationship-building across universal and voluntary sectors.
Strong leadership, organisational skills, and the ability to use information systems effectively are essential to this role.
