Responsibilities
* Lead: Undertake the multi‑design coordination including signalling, overhead line, third rail, civils and power.
* Provide checks of design deliverables completed by members of the team in accordance with company procedures.
* Provide Expertise: The role requires experience of OLE design and will include acting as the Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) for the delivery of multi‑disciplinary schemes nationwide, as well as in the capacity of a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE).
* Collaborate: Lead the team briefings and apply technical initiatives to improve quality and standards across teams, as well as undertake performance reviews for individuals. Keep up to date with industry best practice and apply it where appropriate.
* Ensure Quality: Emphasize delivery of projects to appropriate quality standards, achieve excellence in technical quality, and ensure integrated multi‑disciplinary engineering efficiency. Specific tasks include:
* Safety and Security: Ensure technical quality of deliverables – conduct checks of design deliverables completed by team members in line with company procedures. Deliver on time according to design programmes. Manage personal and team budgets and resourcing to meet financial targets. Ensure teams understand and apply a Safe By Design approach and advocate for a Common Safety Method (CSM) on projects.
Specific Skills Required
* Previous experience in leading teams and conducting performance reviews.
* Demonstrable experience performing the role of Engineering Manager on high‑profile projects.
* Knowledge of maintenance practices and construction methodologies with the ability to consider and define requirements within design development.
* Knowledge of system interfaces that impact track design principles and demonstrable experience in managing interfaces within design.
* Excellent communication skills; ability to develop and deliver presentations, prepare technical reports, and project management knowledge.
Qualifications
* Demonstrable experience and understanding of railway OLE throughout the engineering process from inception to delivery, specifically on Network Rail Infrastructure.
* Good communication skills and ability to work within teams as part of an Alliance arrangement while meeting strict deadlines.
* Client‑focused approach to service delivery.
* Previous Contractor’s Engineering Management experience in rail projects within OLE.
