The National Gambling Clinic is a highly specialist national NHS service for clients engaging in problem gambling based in London. Our clinic is also part of the National Centre of Behavioural Addictions. We pride ourselves on having acted as a centre of excellence and as a training clinic, influencing policy and publishing research. We offer a comprehensive, psychologically-informed treatment programme with a strong group component, including evidence-based CBT for gambling harms, psychodynamic therapy, medication, and family interventions.
We are seeking a Practitioner Psychologist (HCPC accredited) or CBT therapist (BABCP accredited) to join our dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a unique branch of mental health during a period of expansion and growth.
The successful candidate will be energetic, robust, and possess sophisticated and sensitive clinical skills, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality services in the NHS, social care, or the private sector. Essential experience includes delivering CBT and working in adult mental health. Experience in psychodynamic or systemic work is highly desirable. The post-holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines, implementing psychological interventions for individuals and groups, and will be a key part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising with colleagues from the clinic and community services to ensure seamless care pathways.
CNWL Addictions Directorate is a well-established NHS provider offering a wide range of addiction treatment interventions to a diverse population across Hillingdon, Harrow, Ealing, Brent, Hounslow, and Hackney, including a Club Drug Clinic and national gambling and gaming services. We have an experienced, diverse workforce and are expanding on specialist roles and advanced practice.
The role involves evening work once a week and outreach activities in other services, with part-time options considered. The main responsibilities include:
1. Providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment for Gambling Disorder (mainly individual and group CBT)
2. Liaising proactively with colleagues and professionals, including GPs and CMHTs nationwide
3. Working autonomously within professional guidelines and team policies
4. Contributing to research, audit, policy, and service development in line with clinical governance
