Our client is a rapidly growing international energy engineering group delivering CHP and wider sustainable energy solutions, supported by a recently expanded UK operation focused on operational excellence, innovation, and nationwide growth. They are seeking a Head of Finance to take ownership of the UK businesses (circa £20m turnover & growing).
Position Summary
The Head of Finance is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the UK businesses while supporting the strategic agenda for growth, profitability, and future investment readiness.
This is a hands-on role combining financial control with forward-looking strategic insight. The successful candidate will work closely with the UK Directors, senior leadership team, and Group Finance. As the UK operation matures, the role is intended to evolve into a Finance Director position.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Governance
* Produce management accounts, monthly and periodic reporting for both UK entities.
* Oversee accounting processes including general ledger, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
* Ensure compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP, and statutory reporting requirements.
* Lead annual audits, working with external auditors and Group Finance.
* Manage corporation tax, VAT, and payroll obligations.
* Oversee expenses, credit control, and treasury processes.
* Maintain strong internal controls and risk management frameworks.
Strategic & Commercial Finance
* Support Directors and leadership with budgets, forecasts, and long-term planning.
* Lead business planning and financial modelling to support growth and investment decisions.
* Manage banking relationships including debt facilities.
* Support and negotiate CAPEX investments and funding options.
* Provide financial insight to optimise EBITDA and operational performance.
* Support Directors in presenting financial results and forecasts to senior stakeholders and Group meetings.
Debt & Treasury Management
* Create and monitor cash flow forecasts and repayment schedules.
* Prepare and present regular debt, cash flow, and refinancing reports.
* Lead capital-raising processes where required alongside Group Finance and lenders.
Operational & Project Accounting
* Implement and oversee project-based accounting for energy installations and service projects.
* Support operational teams with cost tracking, margin analysis, and project profitability reviews.
* Partner with Project Managers to ensure accurate job costing, WIP valuation, and forecasting.
* Complete post-acquisition financial integration tasks.
* Lead implementation of a new Group ERP system for the finance function (experience with IFS or similar systems beneficial).
Leadership & Development
* Lead and develop a small high-performing finance team.
* Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
* Improve financial literacy across the wider business.
Key Skills & Experience
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with 5–7+ years’ post-qualification experience.
* Experience as Head of Finance / Financial Controller in a growth SME or mid-market environment.
* Strong knowledge of IFRS, debt management, forecasting, and cashflow modelling.
* Experience managing banks, auditors, external advisors, and funding relationships.
* Proven capability in strategic planning, EBITDA improvement, and commercial negotiation.
* Experience in project-based accounting, CAPEX negotiation, and post-acquisition integration.
* Strong Excel/modelling skills and experience with ERP systems.
* Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and commercially focused with strong communication skills.
