The Electrical Engineer will have a strong electrical background in the DNO, IDNO or ICP industry with experience within the renewable or embedded generation sector. They will have industry authorisations with the supporting qualifications and experience. The role itself will support delivery of a portfolio of construction projects providing technical assistance to the project team.
Duties and Responsibilities
To effectively manage the electrical element on a portfolio of construction projects from design handover to construction completion, including all associated cable testing and commissioning assistance.
Provide technical support to the Construction Supervisor and Project Manager.
Chair project technical meetings with the design and operations team, including DNO and client technical advisors.
Review the project throughout the design process and ensure its readiness for handover to the construction team.
Assist the Project Manager to ensure the delivery programme is managed and maintained for each project, establishing a logical and efficient approach to meet the accepted timescales.
Ensure all electrical works comply with the relevant DNO G81, BS standards and clients' ERs.
Determine labour & resource requirements for the project and assist the Project Manager and commercial team with technical scope for tenders.
Ensure projects are delivered to exceed the client's expectations.
Project-specific responsibilities
Communication: Recruit (if required) and manage the Construction Supervisor and Site Manager to deliver the project. Provide technical assistance to the project team and assist with electrical designs. Liaise and communicate effectively and timely with g2E colleagues, clients, suppliers, and sub-contractors. Train and mentor staff as required.
Contractual & Legal: Familiarise yourself with the contract between the client and g2E and ensure compliance with the client's requirements.
Sales/Estimates: Understand the g2E sales estimate/proposal.
Drawings & Specifications: Ensure compliance with project drawings & specifications, e.g., DNO G81. Review and advise on clients' ERs, ensuring project compliance.
Planning: Ensure adherence to client and LA planning conditions throughout the project.
Risk Management: Assist with the Risk Register and update regularly as the project progresses.
Purchase Orders: Ensure compliance with g2E procurement processes, assisting the commercial team where required.
Reporting: Assist the Project Manager with weekly and monthly reports. Compile miscellaneous reports as instructed.
POW: Keep the POW updated with project team changes, informing all key personnel.
Street Works: Ensure the project team raises Sect 50 in line with NRSWA Act.
NJUG: Ensure compliance with NJUG guidelines.
Sub-Contractors/Suppliers: Manage g2E sub-contractor/supplier processes, produce scope of works, liaise with g2E Legal and Commercial, review T&Cs and RAMS. Assist QS with tender scope.
Supervision: Ensure adequate subcontractor supervision on site by project managers, site managers, and construction supervisors.
Support to Project Managers, Construction Supervisor, and Site Managers: Provide electrical support and ensure coverage during absences.
Commissioning: Familiarise with commissioning processes and plan commissioning activities to meet client requirements.
QA: Ensure QA programs and audits are completed, including pre-work checks, sign-offs, and compilation of test certificates and reports.
Quantity Surveyor: Support QS with tenders, milestone approvals, and technical support for EWN, EOT, or CE.
Meetings: Attend design, procurement, client, DNO, IDNO, and other g2E meetings as required.
Audits: Manage and contribute to team, site, DNO, IDNO, and HSEQ audits.
Advice to Design: Provide technical advice, review designs, and ensure buildability.
Advice to Sales: Offer technical support, costings, site recces, and reports to aid tendering.
HSEQ: Familiarise with CPP, F10, and g2E HSEQ documentation. Assist in site safety, RAMS, and audits.
DSR'S/SSOW: Ensure compliance with distribution safety rules and safe systems of work.
As Builts: Submit information timely for 'As Builts' and Health & Safety File.
Competency: Maintain personal and team competency through training, CPD, etc.
Skills & Knowledge
* HND or degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
* 5 years in relevant construction projects including earthing, LV/HV cable laying, and distribution systems up to 132kV
* DNO, IDNO, or ICP experience
* Experience with renewable or embedded generation projects
* Previous AP or SAP authorisations
* Ability to interpret electrical drawings and specifications
* Knowledge of industry standards, processes, and procedures
* Understanding of DNO G81, Sect 50, SAP, and authorisations (LV & HV)
* Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation on construction sites
* Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Project
