Key Responsibilities:

* Assay Development and Integration:

* Lead the design, development, and validation of innovative assays, ensuring scientific rigor and compliance with regulatory standards.

* Oversee the integration of assays into development and automated pipelines and broader technological platforms.
* Evaluate emerging assay technologies and methodologies for potential adoption.
* Establish experimental plans, timelines, and milestones aligned with program objectives.

* Scientific Leadership:

* Serve as SME, advising the Head of Biotechnology and R&D Manager on scientific matters and research strategies.

* Provide scientific direction for assay development initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
* Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams—including molecular biologists, engineers, bioinformaticians, and project managers—to advance assay development.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advances in molecular biology, sequencing, metagenomics, and bioinformatics.

* Data Analysis and Reporting:

* Oversee analysis and interpretation of assay data to inform decision-making.

* Review internal data and reports, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
* Prepare and deliver scientific updates, reports, and publications for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

* PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related discipline.
* 10–15 years of relevant commercial research experience, ideally in IVD medical devices, pharma or similarly regulated environments.
* Proven expertise in assay development, validation, and integration on lab-on-chip platforms.
* Strong knowledge of virology, sequencing (including long-read), environmental metagenomics, and bioinformatics tools.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide technical leadership across diverse teams.
* Experience in mentoring junior staff and promoting a culture of safety, compliance, and scientific excellence.

Essential Skills:

* Extensive experience with assay design and integration in a regulated environment.
* Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (short- and long-read)
* Show strong initiative, with the ability to lead advanced scientific projects and advise senior leadership.
* Strong communication skills to ensure scientific progress is clearly understood and plans implemented, both internally and with external stakeholders
* Strong ability to manage scientific development roadmaps and work within timelines and budgets
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to scientific research, such as Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)

Desirable:

* Environmental metagenomics knowledge and/or experience
* Experience with MinION Sequencing and bioinformatics
