We have an opportunity within our Benefits team for a Council Tax Inspector to undertake Council Tax Inspections of properties within Swindon.
The successful candidate will be required to produce detailed reports relating to inspections they have undertaken, and to gather & verify evidence. They will also need to have their own vehicle and be able to effectively plan a route of their planned inspections within the district. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed for business miles travelled.
The candidate will need to be confident in meeting new people and building strong relationships while gathering important data to assist the Local Council.
To liaise with both Clients and the Valuation Office staff to ensure schedules are processed and actioned in accordance with legislation and guidelines set by central Government, Liberata and Our Clients.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
• Undertake Council Tax Inspections including empty properties and disability banding reduction assessments.
• To ensure the Council Tax data base is updated and accurate.
• Meet individual targets and agreed objectives.
• Maintain high quality of work, in accordance with departmental and service agreements.
• Ability to interact with members of the public, Government Bodies, Local Clients and Private Organisations who maybe under physical and emotional stress and able to establish a rapport with people from different ethnic cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
• Liaise with other contract departments such as Collection and Recovery.
• Adherence to Liberatas Health and Safety Policy and procedures. Compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation.
• Ensure managers, and Liberatas instructions are adhered to, including management performance tools and time sheets.
• Process schedules in a timely fashion.
• Process the schedule accurately.
• Create and terminate accounts and properties.
• Action property reorganisations such as Splits, Mergers and Re-organisations.
• Ensure correspondence from Rate payers is responded to in accordance with the Service Level Agreement and explained in a format which is understandable.
• Ensure legislation knowledge is kept up to date in relation to role.
• Notify the valuation office of amendments required by the Billing Authority as the Contract requires
• Apply transition where applicable.
• Awareness of interest payments and process where applicable.
• The post holder is required to take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their work, to comply with the Health and Safety Policy and to co-operate with Liberata on health and safety matters at all times.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with a minimum 5 grades A-C including English and Maths
• Good oral and written communication skills. (essential).
• An understanding of Mathematics and mathematical process (essential).
• Experience of using Microsoft or equivalent packages (desirable).
• Valuation Experience or Experience in a revenues field. (highly desirable).
• Experience of Revenues systems, I-World, Academy and/or Equivalents (desirable).
