Job overview

Are you passionate about making a real difference in young people's lives? Do you believe that consistent attendance is the cornerstone of academic success? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our dedicated team at Benfield School as an Attendance Officer.

You will contribute to improving whole-school attendance outcomes, including reducing the level of persistent absence by undertaking the role of Attendance Officer for Years 10 and 11 in liaison with the Year Leader, and providing support to the Year Leaders for Years 7 to 9 by pursuing legal measures to ensure learners get a full-time education.

We are looking for a colleague who has:

* Knowledge of policies, protocols and statutory guidance on pupil attendance.
* Experience of working with pupils and parents to improve pupil attendance.
* Effective communication skills to establish effective working relationships with headteachers, external agencies etc.
* Level 2 Basic Skills (Literacy or Numeracy) or equivalent e.g. GCSE Maths and English.

Please note that this post is permanent, working term time only plus 5 training days.

Benfield School is a fully inclusive 11–16 school with a distinct ethos and a strong sense of support and loyalty. Excellent relationships between students and staff and a purposeful learning environment are evident in lessons and around the modernised site. With this foundation, our students have a strong platform to be confident, happy and able to achieve their aspirations.

Our school is one of seven primary and secondary schools within the NEAT Academy Trust family of schools. At the heart of our trust is the aim to nurture, educate, achieve and transform the lives of all young people within the communities we serve across the North East. We have a national research school, which aims to build and strengthen networks of schools throughout the region and help them access effective education research and implement it in everyday practice.

In return, we offer:

* Great opportunities for continuing professional development and a career pathway across the trust.
* A team of hardworking, dedicated and friendly staff where everyone is valued.
* The benefit of working in a highly collaborative multi-academy trust.
* Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, which the trust also contributes to on your behalf.
* Recognition of previous service with other schools, academies, local government, etc.
* Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) delivered by Health Assured – the UK and Ireland's leading wellbeing provider.
* Good public transport links via Tyne and Wear Metro and road links from the A19 and A1058.

If you would like to join us and feel you could thrive in a collegiate and positive atmosphere, click to apply.

Closing date: Sunday, 14th September 2025.

NEAT Academy Trust is committed to safer recruitment practice and promoting the welfare of children and expects staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced criminal records check from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for all posts.

Welcome from the Principal

Benfield is very proud of our distinct ethos with its strong sense of mutual support and loyalty, where excellent relationships are evident between students and staff and a purposeful learning environment is evident in lessons and around our modernised site. With this foundation, our students have a strong platform to be confident, happy and are able to achieve their aspiration.

Benfield has an incredible team of excellent teachers and support staff who genuinely care for the students and a fantastic group of young people who have a great love for the school and who take great pride in what they do here.

We have a very clear vision – all of our students are set challenging academic and personal targets and are given the support and encouragement to succeed to ensure that each of them goes out into the globally competitive world after leaving Year 11 or Year 13 with the skills, attributes and behaviours for 21st century living.

The environment we provide for this to take place in is one which is stimulating and exciting, whilst also recognising that education takes place both inside and outside the classroom and through a range of various learning styles.

Within our learning community, we welcome the parents and carers of our students, placing full value on the vital role they play in the education of their children. We believe that it is essential that an active partnership and effective collaboration between home and school is in place to make sure that individually, our students are provided with the start to their life that they deserve.

I hope you find our website helpful and that it conveys our values and ethos.
