Job overview

An exciting opportunity to develop clinical pathways and the service delivery model for the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) service at the Royal Free Hospital. This fixed‑term post works alongside Rheumatology and Respiratory services to establish a multidisciplinary service for patients with ILD, particularly SSc‑ILD and systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease (SARD) ILD.

Contract: Fixed term – 12 months (potential extension to 15 months).
Hours: Part time – 15 hours per week (0.4 WTE).
Salary: £58,133–£65,261 per annum (inclusive of HCAS, pro‑rata).


Key responsibilities

* Liaise with multidisciplinary team members to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialist patient care across professional boundaries.
* Undertake nurse‑led clinics and ensure excellent standards of nursing care through planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating these clinics.
* Deliver specialist clinical care autonomously in line with research‑based principles to enhance patient care quality.
* Facilitate planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated patient group.
* Contribute to training and education within the specialist area.
* Promote innovation and continual improvement of patient care through evidence review and embedding research findings into practice.
* Act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.
* Participate in MDT meetings, ILD business meetings, senior nurse meetings and related meetings.


Qualifications

* Post‑registration qualification relevant to the specialty.
* Master’s degree or working towards one.
* Non‑Medical Prescribing course or willingness to undertake one.
* Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification.
* Appropriate UK professional registration.
* Eligible to work in the United Kingdom, or meet sponsorship criteria under the Skilled Worker visa route.


Experience

* Substantial post‑registration experience in respiratory medicine.
* Undertaken nurse‑led clinics.
* Proven evidence of improving patient experience.
* Previous experience of research and audit.
* Evidence of teaching junior staff.
* Respiratory‑related diploma/degree module.
* Spirometry experience or recognised spirometry training.
* Level 1/2 smoking cessation training.


Skills and aptitudes

* Expert specialist skills for the post.
* Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to the specialty.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence.
* Proficiency in computer use, keyboard, presentation skills.
* Ability to problem‑solve, prioritize and meet deadlines while managing caseload.
* Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multi‑professional teams.
* Demonstrated knowledge and ability to undertake change management.
* Ability to manage stressful situations and challenge decisions to ensure patient needs are met.
* Ability to lead, manage and motivate others in complex problem‑solving and assessment.
* Ability to counsel patients/carers with distressing conditions and symptoms.
* Physical assessment skills in respiratory patients.
* Caring and sensitive approach to patient care.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of ILD.
* Knowledge of local and national policies relating to the provision of respiratory services.
* Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of asthma and COPD.
