Where and when do we need you?
We are recruiting a Waking Night Support Worker for our residential children’s home in Portchester, which accommodates up to 5 children aged 12 to 18. Our goal is to provide an enriching, positive environment that prepares and supports children for transition into adulthood. The home offers a structured, homely, and nurturing setting to help children achieve their potential.
Responsibilities of the Waking Night Support Worker
1. Building respectful impactful relationships: Maintain safe and respectful relationships with children through effective support, guidance, and care, ensuring professional boundaries are upheld.
2. Planning and preparation: Coordinate and plan shifts to prioritize safeguarding, managing demands, and adapting to change.
3. Keeping vulnerable children safe: Manage child protection issues through effective reporting and collaboration with senior staff and external agencies.
4. Completing nightly tasks: Record handovers, case notes, risk assessments, and ensure accurate documentation.
5. Creating a homely environment: Contribute to household duties, cleaning, and upkeep to maintain a welcoming environment.
6. Dynamic working: Work independently and as part of a dedicated team with support and development opportunities.
7. Trauma-informed practice: Use industry-recognized RiiSE training to deliver trauma-informed responses and appropriate interventions during crises.
Note: The role involves lone working supported by another staff member on a sleep-in shift. The work pattern is 10 hours per night, 22:00 – 08:00, on a rolling rota including weekends.
Requirements
All candidates must have a full driving license and access to a car. Successful applicants will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check, which will be paid for by Fair Ways.
Desirable but Not Essential
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or equivalent.
* Previous experience working with children and/or young people.
