About the Role
Our client is looking for a meticulous and proactive Credit Controller to play a vital role in protecting their financial health. You will be the key link between the customers and the business, ensuring timely payments, minimising risk, and maintaining strong, positive customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the end-to-end credit control process for a portfolio of customers, primarily via phone and email.
* Proactively resolve billing and payment queries, performing account reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
* Assess and set appropriate credit limits based on in-depth analysis of credit reports and customer payment history.
* Review and approve sales orders for customers on stop or over their credit limit.
* Build and maintain excellent customer relationships, acting as a trusted point of contact.
* Collaborate closely with the sales team to communicate account statuses and resolve issues.
* Keep meticulous records of all customer interactions and account actions.
* Process credit card payments securely over the phone.
* Support the Credit Manager with month-end reporting and contribute to team goals.
* Ensure the company's bad debt provision and overdue balances are kept to a minimum.
Qualifications & Skills
* Proven experience (5+ years) in a credit control role, with at least 2 years involved in setting credit limits and order approval.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and advanced formulas.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with customers and internal teams alike.
* A hands-on, problem-solving attitude with impeccable attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
* An understanding of financial statements is essential.
* (Preferred) Experience using Pegasus Opera 3 or Esker Cash Application/Collections modules.
* (Preferred) Associate member of the CICM (Chartered Institute of Credit Management).
* (Preferred) Experience working with customers across EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa).
* (Bonus) Fluency in a European language such as German, Spanish, or Italian.
* 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including Maths and English.
