We are looking for hardworking team players to join us in the friendly Radiotherapy treatment delivery team at our Withington site.

We have an excellent new starter induction package and great opportunities for training and development across the service, including encouragement for personal development with our specialist education team and opportunities to attend local and national courses and conferences. The Band 6 position is a key member of the treatment team and is encouraged to contribute towards the development of the treatment delivery service. They will be expected to lead and supervise staff operating the equipment under the direct supervision of the Superintendent Radiographers.

Shift patterns between 06:00am and 23:00pm. We have several positions available including various part-time and full-time and welcome applications for all working patterns.


Main duties

* Lead, co-ordinate, supervise and manage a team of staff operating radiotherapy equipment and act as lead practitioner, making assessments and key decisions regarding workload management, patient care, and treatment.
* Ensure that the highly complex radiotherapy and imaging equipment is safe and accurate to operate, undertaking machine checks and reporting variances, faults, and malfunctions.
* Undertake and evaluate radiation dose delivery and complex calculations involving a range of radiation types and energies.
* Interpret, monitor, and evaluate the treatment prescriptions to ensure radiotherapy is delivered accurately and reproducibly in line with the quality system.
* Evaluate delivery of radiotherapy through application and interpretation of treatment verification procedures.
* Ensure the team follows systems and working methods to achieve safe, timely workload targets.
* Accurately position patients and operate highly complex radiotherapy and imaging equipment along the radiotherapy pathway.
* Keep accurate records and comply with necessary policies and procedures.
* Analyse data and information relevant to patients' diagnosis, ensuring patients and relatives are treated with dignity and respect.
* Communicate confidential information and provide emotional support to patients and their carers/relatives, including children and the terminally ill; provide information about the radiotherapy pathway and expected side effects.
* Communicate accurate and timely information with all other disciplines involved along the patient pathway.
* Manage areas of conflict with the unit team, patients and the wider multidisciplinary team and escalate as necessary.
* Anticipate and identify common and complex treatment-related side effects, offering advice and referrals as needed.
* Maintain patient confidentiality in line with information governance legislation.
* Apply safe moving and handling practices and comply with Health and Safety legislation.
* Minimise cross-infection risk in line with infection control policy.
* Implement department procedures within an accredited quality management system and report variances.
* Contribute to development of the quality management system by reviewing and writing work instructions and procedures.
* Ensure all work complies with local rules, UK Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 and IR(ME)R 2017.
* Be aware of and participate in audit and research within the department and implementation of new processes and techniques.
* Undertake training and competency to dispense medication under Patient Group Direction (PGD).
* Participate in extended shift system, bank holidays, weekend working and on-call.
* Other duties as negotiated to develop the role in the organisation.
* Achieve competencies as outlined by the radiotherapy education team within the time period set by the line manager.


Supervisory & managerial

Qualifications

Essential

* DCR(T), BSc (Hons) or PGDip in Therapeutic Radiography
* HCPC registration

Desirable

* Post-registration training events, M-level modules or management/leadership training


Experience

Essential

* Clinical experience within a treatment setting with elements such as SRS/SABR
* Experience in on-treatment imaging and on-set clinical decision making
* Experience with quality, governance and service improvement in ISO9001 or similar
* Experience of incident reporting, complaints and compliments; participating in technical developments
* Experience of working within a team environment

Desirable

* Awareness of contemporary trends in advanced radiotherapy
* Awareness of clinical practice at other radiotherapy centres
* Awareness of trial protocols and procedures


Skills

Essential

* Ability to manage difficult conversations and conflicts
* Ability to foster a team environment and motivate colleagues
* Ability to convey information effectively in group settings
* Ability to manage workload, pathways, and data analysis
* Proficiency with core clinical IT (R&V, PACS/RIS, PAS) and quality systems


Knowledge

Essential

* Principles of radiotherapy across the pathway; radiotherapy physics, anatomy and radiobiology
* Understanding of referral pathways and patient journey; IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017 knowledge
* Data protection and health and safety legislation; awareness of professional context


Values

Essential

* Ability to demonstrate organisational values and behaviours
