Job Description And Qualifications
Air Products touches the lives of consumers around the globe in positive ways every day. Focused on serving energy, environment and emerging markets, we provide essential industrial gases, related equipment and applications expertise to customers in dozens of industries, including refining, chemical, metals, electronics, manufacturing, and food and beverage. We are also the global leader in the supply of liquefied natural gas process technology and equipment. Join us working on innovative Industrial Internet of Things solutions within the Smart technology team based at our European Technology Group. The Team specialises in developing innovative solutions to monitor customer processes with the aim of reducing gas consumption and improving quality.
About the role
You will be part of a small team of electronic engineers working closely with experts in high pressure gases and cryogenic liquids, metal processing or combustion systems. You will have the chance to design schematics, PCB layouts for your own designs, then build and prove them, with a variety of projects throughout the year. Some knowledge of the Internet of Things and its associated protocols would be an advantage. You will need to apply critical thinking to analyse problems, handling large datasets of results and engineering innovative solutions. In order to achieve this, you will receive extensive on the Job training. The Placement will involve some or all of:
1. Analog & digital hardware Design (Schematic, Board Layout, Prototype building / testing using surface mount technology)
2. Firmware development (C)
3. Software development (C#, Python)
4. Data analysis (using Excel, MATLAB, Python…)
You will have the chance to work at problems which will develop your skills in team-working, pure electronics as well as physics of sensors and industrial applications. Your work could revolutionize the world of industrial gas – put electronics onto a furnace full of molten glass – or put our unique Molecular Mass Meter in the toolbox of a thousand engineers around the world. And you will need an innovative mindset to make electronics tough – really tough. Gas cylinders are made of some of the strongest alloys, as well as Kevlar and carbon fibre. We use gas down to -196°C (liquid nitrogen temperature) or under massive 300 atmospheres pressure. And our electronics must match.
About you
You will be studying a sandwich degree in Electronic Engineering or related subject (on track to achieve a 2:1 or above preferably MEng - we will also accept Beng). You will already possess excellent communication skills and will be looking to enhance these further in your placement. You will have practical experience of designing and building electronic circuits. Finally, you will have lots of enthusiasm, passion for your discipline and enjoy working with others. In return we promise to challenge you in rewarding ways!
