Working closely with the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and supporting the payroll function during the implementation of a new payroll system. This role is ideal for someone eager to learn, show initiative, and build strong payroll experience within a fast‑paced, supportive environment.
What You'll Be Doing
* Process payroll end-to-end with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance
* Manage and respond to payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
* Support the Payroll Manager with day-to-day payroll operations
* Assist with the implementation of a new payroll system
* Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, statutory payments, pensions, and payroll legislation
* Maintain accurate employee and payroll records
* Liaise with HR regarding starters, leavers, and pay changes
* Support payroll reporting and audits as required
* Assist the Financial Controller and Finance Team with month-end processing
* Build strong working relationships across Finance, HR, and the wider nursery network
* Redesign and maintain reporting packs to include financial and non‑financial metrics
* Carry out any additional tasks required to support timely financial processing
Qualifications
* Advanced Excel skills are essential for this role.
* Experience in a payroll role (Payroll Clerk, Payroll Analyst, or similar)
* Good working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory requirements
* Strong numerical skills and exceptional attention to detail
* Highly organised with the ability to manage deadlines and priorities
* Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
* Experience using payroll systems (implementation experience desirable)
* Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the Payroll Manager
* Professional, discreet, and trustworthy when handling confidential information
Desirable
* Experience within childcare, education, or a multi‑site organisation
* CIPP qualification or interest in working towards one
