Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Ecologist to join our North West Environment team within the Operations Directorate. The Ecologist will mainly cover the North West region and will provide technical expertise in ecology to support the Trust's environmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert ecological advice to internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Implement asset management strategies to protect and enhance Trust assets and their environmental performance.
* Conduct habitat surveys to inform works on Trust assets.
* Deliver training and facilitate practical sessions for colleagues, contractors, and volunteers.
* Create habitat improvement plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
* Implement inspection, monitoring, and maintenance programs for environmental assets.
* Lead volunteer groups and engage with community programs to promote waterways and ecological work.
* Support citizen science surveys, such as for otters and water voles.
* Adhere to UK statutory environmental policies and Trust procedures.
Location
Role based from home with access to a North West Hub, with site visits across the region, especially around Manchester.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in ecology or a related field.
* Experience in applying ecological knowledge professionally.
* Knowledge of UK & European environmental policies and regulations.
* Habitat and protected species survey experience (desirable).
* Membership of CIEEM and GIS knowledge are desirable.
* Relevant qualifications in Arboriculture or a bat license are desirable.

* Full UK driving license and access to a personal vehicle.
