Job Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist (6 months contract with high likelihood of moving to permanent)
Location: Skelmersdale, Lancashire
Working pattern: 4:5 days per week
Salary: GBP 350 per day (Umbrella, inside IR35)
HSE Recruitment Network is recruiting for an Environmental Compliance Specialist, with the opportunity to work for a prominent dairy business undergoing significant transformation through strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, driving sustainability, and achieving long-term growth while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility.
The role focuses on establishing and maintaining environmental compliance.
Main Responsibilities
1. Conduct a comprehensive review of the site’s environmental compliance status.
2. Gather data and map all site waste streams, ensuring proper disposal methods are in place.
3. Investigate and manage environmental risks, such as storage of fuels and chemicals.
4. Support the site in preparing for audits such as UK ETS verification and Environment Agency visits.
5. Develop and deliver environmental training and education programs for site staff.
6. Collaborate with the interim HSE Manager and the incoming permanent HSE Manager to ensure a holistic approach to health, safety, and environmental management.
7. Ensure the site obtains and maintains all necessary environmental permits and build action plans with stakeholders for any required improvement conditions.
Experience Required
1. Proven experience in an environmental role, ideally within a manufacturing or dairy environment.
2. Strong knowledge of UK environmental regulations and permitting processes.
3. Experience with waste management and waste stream mapping.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
5. Proactive and hands-on approach, with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of environmental management.
6. IEMA certification is desirable.
7. Experience with UK ETS is a plus.
