Wellcome Genome Campus Ltd (WGCL) is seeking to appoint a Soft FM Manager to support the delivery of high‑quality facilities services across one of the world's most significant scientific research campuses.
The Wellcome Genome Campus is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for genomics and biodata science, home to the Wellcome Sanger Institute and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). More than 2,500 people work across the existing one‑million‑square‑foot estate, which includes laboratories, research facilities, offices, hospitality venues, residential, accommodation, a conference centre, gym, nursery and extensive landscaped grounds. A major expansion programme — approved in 2021 — is underway, which will see the Campus grow from 125 acres to 440 acres and deliver 1.6 million sq ft of new research and technology space, homes for campus colleagues, hotel and leisure facilities, F&B venues, education amenities and significant new infrastructure. WGCL is the newly established organisation leading both the existing Campus and this ambitious expansion, with enabling works already underway and the first new buildings due on site in 2026.
Reporting to the Head of Soft FM and Campus Experience, the Soft FM Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the effective delivery of Soft FM services across this complex, mixed‑use scientific estate. Acting as the client‑side lead for Soft FM contract delivery, the role will oversee day‑to‑day operational performance delivered through outsourced partners, ensuring all services meet contractual obligations, regulatory requirements and WGCL’s high standards. The remit spans the full range of Soft FM services, including security, cleaning, catering, waste management, landscaping, the campus bus service and the on‑site nursery. The role will involve producing data‑driven reporting and insights, supporting service‑charge reviews, contributing to strategic planning, and promoting service improvements, innovations and efficiencies across all soft‑services activity.
We are seeking a Soft FM professional with experience operating across large, complex or multi‑site estates, with a strong track record of managing outsourced service partners and delivering improvements in service quality, performance and customer experience. Candidates should have experience working with KPIs, SLAs, budgets and compliance frameworks, alongside the ability to manage diverse stakeholder relationships and navigate a fast‑paced and evolving environment. A proactive, solutions‑focused and customer‑centred approach is essential, supported by strong organisational capability, attention to detail and analytical skills.
