Technical Claims Consultant – Property Liability
Direct Line Group is looking for a Technical Claims Consultant – Property Liability to join our team in Manchester.
What You'll Be Doing
Reporting directly to the Technical Claims Team Leader, you'll settle a variety of third‑party property liability claims as economically as possible while maximising the speed of settlement and safeguarding the company’s reputation. You'll be an integral part of a centre of technical excellence for property liability claims, providing advice and guidance to colleagues and other business areas within Direct Line Group.
Key Accountabilities
* Manage own portfolio of complex and/or higher value commercial direct property liability claims in accordance with personal delegated handling authority.
* Liaise with legal advisors (solicitors and counsel) where necessary over issues of policy indemnity and legal liability.
* Negotiate a fair and reasonable settlement of the Third Party claim using the appropriate medium.
* Keep knowledge of legal and procedural developments affecting claims handling fully up to date; evaluate relevant changes or developments, provide input into any impact assessment or determination of approach that should be taken by Direct Line and communicate results as necessary.
* Provide technical advice and support to other business areas to support the achievement of business objectives; be aware and make others aware of developing market trends.
* Focus on costs, process improvements and/or efficiency to contribute to the profitability of Direct Line.
* Comply on an ongoing basis with the rules and requirements of any legal/regulatory/risk management frameworks.
* Identify, own and manage the risks involved in running our business appropriate to the role, in line with the Direct Line risk framework.
* Whilst this is a property liability role, the team looks after a wide variety of liability claims and as such, there is an opportunity to progress and handle other liability claims.
What You’ll Need
* Expertise in handling Property Liability claims.
* Experience managing end‑to‑end claims processes, with a preference for handling claims valued up to £100k.
* Understanding of common law and insurance‑related legislation.
* Ability to analyse complex issues, identify root causes, and formulate effective solutions.
