Job Description:
This is a senior-level opportunity within a major insurer’s Birmingham office, focusing on profitable growth across a broad UK mid-market portfolio. You’ll be trusted to make underwriting decisions, build strong broker relationships, and drive business across both new and renewal cases with the support of a highly experienced team behind you.
The Role
This is a market-facing role, ideally suited to an underwriter who enjoys broker engagement and the pace of winning and retaining business. The focus is on UK accounts within the mid-market space, with exposure to casualty, property or as a combined package. You’ll be underwriting a mix of new and existing business, typically within the £K premium range, though you’ll also handle larger and more complex UK risks. You’ll have a clearly defined framework and genuine autonomy to make underwriting decisions that drive profitable growth.

The underwriting function is built around experienced professionals with deep technical knowledge and strong market presence. You’ll be joining a collaborative, commercially minded team that works closely with business development colleagues to identify and secure high-quality business opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll ideally have 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong focus on either Liability, Property or as a package across the mid-market space. This role will suit someone who is confident operating independently, commercially minded, and comfortable managing broker relationships at a senior level. Experience with larger and more complex UK risks is highly desirable.
