Job Summary
A Management Accounts Assistant will maintain the Trust's financial ledgers and assist in providing valued, accurate support and advice to senior finance colleagues. The post‑holder will process accounting information in accordance with the agreed monthly accounting timetable, ensuring department reporting requirements are consistently achieved.
Main Duties
* Assist in the preparation of annual start‑point budget proposals for the Directorate in accordance with the Trust's budgeting policies.
* Generate and circulate standard reports to enable effective monitoring of actual performance of budget centres against budget.
* Provide robust analysis of variances against budget, including the impact of clinical activity where appropriate, and inform effective management of budgets within the group.
* Calculate and input budget amendments, income and expenditure accruals and adjustments to the Trust's general ledger system, thereby maintaining the integrity of financial reporting.
* Maintain records and controls of approved budgets to provide a clear audit trail of changes, both non‑recurring and recurring.
* Prepare cost estimates in an appropriate form and in a timely manner for use by managers and other budget holders, informing decisions about the efficient use of resources, including the workforce.
* Discuss a range of financial and non‑financial issues with managers, Directorate staff, external organisations and non‑financially minded personnel, explaining semi‑complicated and/or contentious points.
* Collect data from a variety of sources to investigate, analyse and resolve a range of semi‑complex financial and non‑financial queries.
* Adapt information systems to meet the specifications of others.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Actively studying towards AAT or equivalent qualification.
* AAT Foundation Level 2 / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
Knowledge & Nature of Experience (Essential)
* A good level of accounting competency gained through experience.
* Full knowledge and understanding of computerised ledgers.
* Experience of providing accurate budgetary support to non‑Finance staff.
Knowledge & Nature of Experience (Desirable)
* Experience of working in an NHS environment with a Shared Service provider.
Personal Skills / Abilities and Attributes (Essential)
* Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely and courteously both orally and in writing to stakeholders at all levels.
* Competent in using spreadsheets and word‑processing applications to analyse and interpret data.
* Ability to work unsupervised and organise own workload to an agreed timetable; work under pressure and deliver work to tight deadlines.
* Fully conversant with all aspects of Oracle.Ability to spend majority of working time using a computer including a visual display unit.
* Ability to concentrate frequently and for long periods.
