The Role The successful candidate will work as the Transport Assistant Manager and oversee daily delivery operations. You will be a key player within the logistics team, and will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement of fleet and drivers. Key Responsibilities Strategically plan and review delivery routes to maximise cost-efficiency and service performance. Create and manage driver rotas up to four weeks in advance, ensuring full shift coverage and effective absence planning. Oversee driver performance, including monitoring hours, safety standards, uniform compliance, and debriefing. Maintain accurate fleet tracking and provide real-time updates. Record Keeping, Maintain precise records of mileage, servicing, tax, and insurance. Monitor and reconcile weekly fuel usage and manage fuel card returns. Provide senior management with regular performance updates on financial outcomes, operational efficiency, and key team metrics. Responsible for conducting regular fleet audits to ensure all drivers are completing their daily vehicle checks and logbooks. This includes coordinating vehicle servicing and repairs, and making sure all certifications (fridges included) are current. Team Leadership & Development: Induction of new drivers, conduct regular licence checks, and maintain a skills matrix for coverage planning. Manage, mentor, and motivate the team, covering all aspects of people management. Health & Safety: Promote a strong health and safety culture. Facilitate a seamless transition between the day and night shifts to ensure continuous operations. The Person: Proven experience in a leadership role within the transport, logistics, or fleet management sectors. Exceptional organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities In-depth knowledge of fleet compliance, driver regulations, and route optimisation tools.
