Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Specialist Doctor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
The closing date is 28 February 2026
We wish to appoint a substantive Specialist Doctor in Obstetrics to further develop our highly rated obstetrics and gynaecological services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
Applications are welcomed from those with sufficient experience to manage clinical activity in the Birth Centre pregnancy assessment unit, and to manage the gynaecology take independently. Experience in providing antenatal care with management of the vast majority of patients independently is expected.
Whilst primary focus of the role is obstetric care, the on‑call component also covers the gynaecology take. You will be expected to provide on‑call gynaecology cover including management of early pregnancy problems, surgical and medical management of ectopic pregnancy.
Ongoing care for gynaecology patients seen on the take will be provided by existing gynaecologists.
A key element of this role is to improve the flexibility of the team. A high proportion of the job plan will be “flexible”, to cover gaps due to annual/sick/study leave. PAs will be split between clinical activities.
Whilst capable of filling a consultant slot on the rota, the successful candidate should also be accepting of covering registrar level responsibilities.
You will provide assessment, care and treatment of emergency patients presenting to the Maternity and Gynaecology department. You will have the ability to work as an effective team member, providing clinical leadership for our clinical teams, and engaging fully with MDT.
