Special School Support Assistant – All‑Through SEN School
Prospero Teaching is seeking calm, patient, and resilient Special School Support Assistants to join a specialist all‑through SEN school in Bournemouth, supporting pupils from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 5. The school caters for a diverse range of needs and abilities, offering multiple tailored curriculums to ensure every learner can access meaningful, personalised education.
This well‑resourced school features a specially equipped food technology room, music room and radio room, alongside sports halls for PE, a sensory room, and extensive outdoor play spaces. These facilities allow pupils to learn through practical, creative, therapeutic and multi‑sensory experiences.
The school also welcomes applications from ad‑hoc supply staff available for day‑to‑day, short‑term or long‑term cover-ideal for those seeking flexible, varied work within a nurturing SEN environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Providing tailored support to pupils with autism, sensory processing needs, communication differences, or complex learning profiles
2. Supporting pupils experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation or sensory overload across KS1-KS5
3. Encouraging engagement through practical, creative, therapeutic and differentiated activities suited to a wide age range
4. Promoting emotional wellbeing, safety and positive behaviour throughout the school day
5. Supporting communication, emotional regulation, social understanding and independence
6. Building trusting, stable relationships using calm, clear and consistent communication
7. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams to deliver holistic, person‑centred support
CONTRACT DETAILS
8. Location: Bournemouth
9. Position: Special School Support Assistant
10. Start Date: ASAP
11. Contract Type: Full‑time with temp‑to‑perm pathways available; ad‑hoc supply opportunities also offered
12. Working Hours: 08:45am – 15:15pm
13. Pay Rate: From £ per hour
REQUIREMENTS
You must:
14. Have the Right to Work in the UK
15. Hold an enhanced child‑barred list DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply)
16. Provide professional references covering the last 24 months
17. Hold a Level 2/3 qualification in childcare, education or health & social care, or have relevant SEN experience supporting young people with complex needs
