Location of the job:
50% Hybrid working - Chester, UK (north west England) office + remote option. 2 days in the office one week, 3 days in the office the next.
Job responsibilities of the German speaking Senior Direct Tax Manager:
* Oversee tax filings, managing tax risks, audit proceedings, and ensuring compliance with internal and jurisdictional deadlines.
* Manage resources efficiently to meet budget targets, tax reporting, and local tax compliance for Germany and other European markets.
* Lead and develop an international tax team of direct reports in the UK and Germany.
* Collaborate with a global tax team to support global tax initiatives.
* Manage direct tax compliance and US tax reporting for Germany and other European markets.
* Plan and execute local tax compliance in Germany.
* Serve as the German Tax Compliance Management System Officer, managing a risk register and reporting quarterly to the FD and General Manager.
* Manage tax audits, including travel to Germany for audit meetings and collaboration with local finance teams.
* Advise and educate finance heads and business partners on tax legislation changes.
* Prepare US GAAP provisions, projections, and contingency reports.
* Prepare cash flow budgets and projections related to taxes.
* Maintain high internal control standards in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, policies, and external requirements.
* Utilize technology for tax return and provision calculations.
* Manage external advisor budgets and internal resourcing to ensure transparency.
* Support a high-performance organizational culture emphasizing customer focus, teamwork, and accountability.
Candidate requirements:
* Fluent in business English and German.
* Degree educated and qualified as a chartered tax advisor or equivalent (e.g., Steuerberater, Fachassistent für Steuerrecht, Steuerfachangestellte).
* Experience in a multinational corporate tax environment, including compliance and reporting in at least one jurisdiction.
* Proficiency in accounting provisions, principles, audit, and financial statement disclosures.
* Experience in managing and developing staff.
* Understanding of US GAAP is advantageous.
* Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
* Effective problem-solving skills, especially with ambiguous situations.
* Ability to think strategically while managing details.
* Experience navigating cross-border and diverse teams.
