Do you have an eye for detail and enjoy working with figures? Are you AAT qualified or nearing completion of your AAT qualification? Have you completed the first levels of ACCA? Are you looking for support in obtaining your AAT/ACCA qualifications? If you are interested in taxation and VAT and looking to start or develop your career in taxation and VAT, this could be the role you have been looking for.
The Role
The post of Tax Assistant offers a great opportunity for candidates passionate about finance and aiming to advance their careers in taxation, including Direct (Corporation Tax), Indirect (VAT, Excise Duties), and Overseas Tax.
The successful candidate will assist the Tax Manager with all direct and indirect tax-related tasks for the University and its subsidiaries. Responsibilities include reviewing financial transactions for compliance, responding to tax queries, preparing and submitting VAT and Corporation Tax returns, and researching ways to optimise tax affairs through legitimate, low-risk schemes that minimize costs proportionally.
About you
You should have at least 5 GCSE passes (grades A-C) including Mathematics and English Language, and be AAT qualified or working towards it. You should also have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, be comfortable with technology and data, and possess attention to detail, the ability to meet tight deadlines, and skills to extract and communicate key information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
What we can offer
Our package includes hybrid working (on-site and remote), onsite parking, 28 days holiday (pro-rata for part-time), 8 bank holidays, and 3 additional days during Christmas. The University supports professional development by funding study towards AAT or equivalent qualifications via the apprenticeship levy.

This role is within a 60+ team supporting financial and management accounting, payments, income, taxation, insurance, compliance, planning, and data insight.
