The Opportunity:
The Laboratory Technician role directly and indirectly supports scientists across R&D functions within AstraZeneca & Cancer Research UK, allowing scientists to concentrate on their core role. This role is to be primarily lab-based, focusing on the delivery of scientific technical support to the R&D laboratories in accordance with Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Standards requirements at the Anne McLaren Building (AMB).
Important: This role includes working within an in-vivo environment.
Driving FM Service Delivery
1. Ensure activities are performed with quality and to defined schedules within a specified area. Act and report on deviations
2. Contribute to the laboratory operational efficiency by liaising with FM suppliers and stakeholders. This includes AstraZeneca and Cambridge University staff
3. Assists with booking in, hosting and visits from internal/external partners, including for inspections/audits (main point of contact for hosting internal contractors)
4. Act as a contact for key customers
5. Optimise use of shared space and maintains BAU throughout the changing footprint
6. Proactively identify and support operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements resulting in time and cost-savings for the customer
7. Creation, maintenance and updating relevant documentation in support of service delivery, compliance and training
8. Report on KPIs, metrics, SLAs and weekly tasks
Lab Support
9. Proactively deliver the operational laboratory support managing workload and service levels as required by the research group(s)
10. Preventative maintenance, cleaning & documentation of several laboratory instruments including incubators, tissue culture hoods & water baths
11. Perform specialist equipment user performance checks (e.g. balances, pH meters)
12. Management of Tube Labelling Services
13. Management of consumables & reagents, including Point of Use (PoU) Kanban areas by daily monitoring and replenishment, liaising with in-house media prep. services, VHP preparation
14. Maintain and organise laboratory consumable & reagent inventories
15. Monitor and keep communal areas clean and tidy
16. Receipt and unpacking of some temperature sensitive parcel deliveries
17. Management & shipment of pipettes for calibration and servicing off-site
18. Waste management
19. Assist in study preparation
Health & Safety Compliance
20. Adhere to SHE regulations, PPE policies and follow Avantor Work Instructions & Risk Assessments
21. Assist Laboratory Manager to maintain a safe laboratory environment and report any incidents/near misses
22. Work proactively with line manager to ensure all training activities are completed and signed off in a timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS Experience of working in a laboratory environment
23. A scientific qualification is preferable, or experience working within a scientific environment
24. Knowledge of SHE requirements in a laboratory environment
25. Knowledge of GLP regulations
26. Good planning, organisational and analytical skills
