The Digital and Innovation department within LNER has been created to manage a significant number of high-profile development projects required to deliver against a highly ambitious business transformation roadmap.
As the Technical Delivery Lead within LNER's Digital Service Model, you will be responsible for driving and ensuring the quality, reliability and releasability of digital services, initiatives and projects through structured testing and release processes.
Reporting into the Head of Digital Delivery, you will play a key role in defining and executing test and release strategies, fostering a culture of continuous improvements, and ensuring dependencies are articulated and managed so that all digital solutions meet the highest standards before, during and after release. The role will be accountable for the planning and management of testing and release strategies, working collaboratively with respective portfolio areas, from Product & Service Management to Projects.
Management and beyond, driving for consistency in approach. Your focus will be on ensuring high-quality, seamless, and efficient software delivery of digital products and services, collaborating with cross-functional teams, 3rd party suppliers and driving LNER's Digital Strategy to fruition.
Within this role you'll also be involved in;
Strategic Leadership
* Define and lead test and release strategies aligned with LNER's business goals.
* Foster a culture of quality, agility, and continuous improvement.
* Champion best practices across internal teams and supplier networks.
* Develop collaborative relationships to drive strategic, customer-focused outcomes.
Test & Release Management
* Oversee planning, execution, and governance of test and release cycles.
* Ensure robust test coverage (functional, performance, integration, regression).
* Drive consistency and reliability in release pipelines, managing risks and dependencies.
* Maintain release readiness criteria and ensure compliance.
Automation & Tooling
* Promote CI/CD practices and lead test automation initiatives.
* Select and manage tools that enhance test and release efficiency.
* Embed automated testing within delivery pipelines.
Process & Performance Improvement
* Identify bottlenecks and drive improvements across workflows.
* Monitor KPIs to inform data-driven decisions.
* Support portfolio planning with a quality and release lens.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
* Act as a central contact for test and release activities.
* Communicate risks and progress clearly to senior stakeholders.
* Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and delivery success.
Governance & Compliance
* Ensure adherence to organisational and regulatory standards.
* Guarantee releases meet security, performance, and quality expectations.
* Support the delivery of digital governance frameworks.
Capability Building & Innovation
* Mentor teams in best practices and emerging technologies.
* Develop and deliver training to upskill colleagues.
* Encourage experimentation and innovation in delivery practices.
Post-Release & Incident Management
* Lead post-release monitoring and incident resolution.
* Conduct retrospectives to improve future release quality.
What you'll need:
* Ability to manage and lead a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
* Experience of confidently leading teams of varying skills and experience.
* Experience of dealing with complex problems and creating simple solutions that multiple stakeholders can understand.
* Knowledge of Automation capabilities, methodologies and tools advantageous but not essential.
* Experience of Agile transformation, SAFe, Lean, Scrum & Kanban and ways of working.
* Business focused with an air of creativity.
* Business development and negotiation experience.
* Strong influencing and communication skills across varying levels.
* Strong collaborative skills, team player, able to bring people together.
* Strong people leadership track record.
* Prince2 or equivalent is desirable.

Medical screening
